Face to face with Ursa Major.

Ursa Major

Ursa Major are only at the beginning of their way on the UK hardcore scene,  but their steps are already very confident. The band present a daring mixture of alternative, metal and hardcore with their own twist – the mingle to watch out for. The year 2012 has been a very important and big one for Ursa Major and we asked the musicians why exactly.

– The year 2012 has been a very productive year for Ursa Major. What are the highlights of 2012 for you?

– All the touring for sure, we’ve toured with some rad bands and made some great friends out of it! As well as some great one off support slots such as LifeRuiner and Playing Red Fest in the summer.

– What bands and album releases have made 2012 memorable for you and why?

– All of them! There’s been some seriously good releases this year, English and World Wide to be honest I wouldn’t know where to begin. Heart of a Coward, The Ghost Inside and Stick To Your Guns would be 3 highlights for me.

– At the beginning of 2013 you’re releasing your very own debut record ‘Old Bones’. How are you feeling about the release?

– Excited! Its been so long since we’ve released anything proper and I think this album is gunna surprise a lot of people when compared to our first EP.

– What was your first thought when you left the studio knowing that you’d just recorded your debut album?

– Relief, it was a long hard process recording an album certainly an endurance test for me but also so excited to get the tracks back.

– You’ve toured a lot this year. What are the most memorable things about playing live shows with all the bands you played with and going to visit a lot of places?

– It’s taught us so much! From live performances right through to building on our own personal relationships with each other. It’s been a lot of fun and were 100% going to apply what we’ve learnt about touring this year into next years schedule.

– What, do you think, is the most spectacular trait of your live shows?

– I would like to think our tightness, we practice a lot and I would hope that shows but that’s the decision of someone who’s watching us to make I guess.

– Looking back, what was the starting point of Ursa Major?

– A lot of us used to be in a pop punk band, when that died a natural death Ursa Major was born.

– How have you changed as a music collective since the formation of the band?

– We used to be a lot more poppy and catchy, then we got a lot heavier and now I think we’ve kind of found a melodic middle ground between the two.

– What is your biggest ambition in music?

– To do what I enjoy in life and not just settle into a life I dont want.

– What do you expect from the year 2013 and what are your plans for the coming year?

– I expect to tour a whole lot, and I expect for things to take a step up from this year; fingers crossed.
